Combining Floodplain Connectivity with Greenway Infrastructure Protection

PXL_20260716_174056443.MP.jpg

The Bear Creek sub-basin retains partially functioning ecological conditions, however, it faces limiting factors including degraded riparian forests and wetlands, lack of floodplain connectivity, simplified channel structure, altered hydrology, and impaired water quality. These issues are especially important for downriver drinking water providers.

This project, currently in the technical assistance phase, will occur on City of Central Point property in Jackson County, Oregon. Central Point recently acquired property at Bear Creek RM 4.5 and approached RRWC to assist in project development and eventually lead the implementation of a floodplain reconnection project at the site.

Downstream water providers, including the cities of Grants Pass, Rogue River, and Gold Hill, pull their water directly from the Rogue River. Restoration of Bear Creek supports healthy watersheds and healthy drinking water for Rogue Valley communities.
