Welcome to Celebrate the Rogue! 2020
A Message from the Executive Director
October is a great time to celebrate our recent work as we welcome fall Chinook, summer steelhead, and the earliest returning Coho Salmon back to the upper Rogue. We are always anxious to see these fish swim to stretches of Ashland or Salt Creek that they had difficulty reaching in years past.
At its heart, Celebrate the Rogue is an outreach and fundraising event. It gives us a chance to connect with you about our activities and what we are doing to protect and restore watershed health-something we all depend on. And our hope is that something in those projects inspires you to support our work.
This year, our celebration is tempered as thousands of fellow community members struggle with the results of the Almeda and South Obenchain Fires. Our heartfelt sympathies go to our affected neighbors, and our sincere hope is that those displaced by the fires have their housing resolved soon.
More than ever, the watersheds around Talent-Phoenix and Eagle Point-Butte Falls-Shady Cove need our collective investment. With our partners, we are brainstorming approaches to limit the erosion of soils in those recently burned areas. And we’ve got some ideas about how to keep soils that do erode from either reaching a stream or settling out once it does reach a creek. And, longer-term, we want to see native plants establish in the area and alcoves and side channels become connected to the mainstem of Bear Creek.
Coming up with ideas is relatively easy. Walking the streams, designing the projects, gaining support, and turning the ideas into action is difficult and expensive. We know that there are a lot of local needs at the moment and those causes are incredibly important to all of us. If clean water and healthy fish, wildlife, and plant populations are important to you, they sure could use your help.
Thanks for joining us at Celebrate the Rogue!
We appreciate your support.
